We have something for every desire whether it’s learning a new language or a new dance step. Professional instructors and lecturers from the top of their fields will be on hand to guide enthusiastic beginners in their new creative outlets, while helping seasoned pros perfect their proficiency.

In Palestinian East Jerusalem, Singer-Songwriter David Broza records a new album with American, Palestinian and Israeli musicians in defiance of the Middle East's dark realities.

This fun and hip choreographed ensemble will draw from the vast repertoire of renowned Jewish Broadway composers as well as some of the great contemporary Jewish pop artists and songwriters such as Billy Joel, Idina Menzel, Pink, Adam Levine (Maroon 5) and Paula Abdul. 

The Glee Club will have performance opportunities throughout the semester.

Guitar Intermediate Group Class
We will explore a broader repertoire of different styles ranging from Bach, the Beatles to Bruce Springsteen. More advanced guitar technique will be taught such as arpeggios, chords and scales.

 
For this class, the ability to read music is required including knowledge of note location on the fretboard.

Oshman Family JCC has partnered with Homemade Cooking to help you build better cooking and eating habits – one delicious meal at a time. This hands-on cooking program was created by a Stanford doctor and an Intuitive Chef who realized that food is the key to wellness and disease prevention.

Guitar Adult Beginners Group Class
This course will cover the fundamentals of guitar playing and music in general. Different parts of the guitar, posture, hand position, tuning and basics of notation such as rhythm and note recognition, fingerings and location of notes and chords on the fretboard will be taught.

Piano: Private Lessons
Keyboard orientation, rhythm and note reading skills will be acquired in a fun and playful atmosphere. Students will begin by playing basic pieces and familiar songs. We will touch upon the history of music, how historical events influenced both the composers and their written works and how these works evolved over time.

Percussion: Private Lessons

Percussion: Private Lessons
Lessons will be broken into exploring the four categories of instruments: snare drum, mallet instruments, timpani, and auxiliary instruments. Emphasis will be placed on sound stick technique and over time develop the fine motor skills to execute intricate rhythms and rudiments. Beyond the instruments, students will learn the following skills: setting goals, practicing efficiency, developing a warmup routine, using the metronome, and more.

Private Flute Lessons

Private Flute Lessons
Jewish and popular music will be taught based on individual levels and interests. For more advanced students, flute works by classical masters such as Bach and Mozart will be studied along with classical compositions by lesser known Jewish composers such as Marin Marais and Muszkowski.

Class will include technical development using tone exercises and Western and Jewish modal scales.

All levels welcome!

Adult Improvisation Classes
Through improvisation, games and exercises, and specific script analysis, students will be introduced to the fundamentals of Acting.  Learning about characterization, motivation, and transition will all be part of investigating the actor’s creative process. Prerequisites: none

Song Writing Class and Rock Band | Adults

Song Writing Class and Rock Band | Adults
Come and take the next step with your songwriting and perform them with a group of like-minded musicians. This class offers adult musicians the unique opportunity to work closely with an experienced Bay Area songwriter and performer. Both beginners and those with experience are welcome, as the instructor will work individually with each student on their personal goals, as well as with the entire group in forming our very own rock band. Whether you are just starting to learn to express yourself through songwriting or have a plethora of compositions that you would like to improve and polish, this course will provide the outlet for your artistic growth.

Each student’s original composition will be recorded at the end of the course.

Israel for Reel

Israel for Reel
Through Israeli film, we will tackle some of the most challenging aspects of what it means to create a democratic, Jewish state and thrive as one in the Middle East today. Throughout the program, we will engage in candid, constructive, and respectful dialogue on topics ranging from Israel’s history to geopolitics to scientific contributions and everything in between.  

The Israel for REEL program seeks to engage American and Israeli individuals and deepen their understanding of Israel, regardless of the complexity or taboo nature of the topics.
