Teens Are Living It Up at the OFJCC!

 

Teens in grades 6−12 will find a wealth of programs and activities at the OFJCC, many developed by and for teens themselves:

  • Fun social events
  • JCC Maccabi Games® and Artsfest®
  • Teen Taskforce (Teen Steering Committee)
  • Cultural arts classes and events for teens
  • Teen-oriented fitness center training and sports
  • Volunteer Opportunities at the OFJCC and throughout the community
  • Shalhevet (Bay Area teen trip to Poland and Israel)
  • J Camp Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program
  • J Camp programs and trips just for teens
  • Marcia & John Goldman Teen Center with couches, tables and arcade games for events, parties and programs
  • Partnership with BBYO, the leading pluralistic teen movement, aspiring to involve more Jewish teens in more meaningful Jewish experiences.

Teen programs are made possible in part through the generosity of the Levine-Lent Family Foundation of the Jewish Community Federation and Endowment Fund and Jay and Sandy Hirsh.

For many teen events, the Oshman Family JCC partners with BBYO, enhancing programming with leadership training, community service opportunities, Jewish education and a connection to Israel.

Basketball Shooting Machine Training
Are you looking to improve your basketball shot? 

The OFJCC now offers a shooting machine that will catch your rebounds and pass the ball so you spend more time practicing your shot and less time running after loose balls.

This is one of the most effective and efficient tools used to help build muscle memory as the repetition helps you to see what you are doing wrong.

TeenFit

TeenFit
In this program Personal Trainers will instruct teens on proper weight lifting form and technique, gym etiquette, SMART goal setting and how to reach these goals safely and effectively. They will encourage healthy behaviors in teens that lead to lifelong habits and wellness.

YouthFit

YouthFit
A fun sports, recreation and fitness program for kids 10-13 years old.

Personal trainers will engage children in exciting activities that will increase their speed, agility, strength, confidence and healthy habits.

Personal Trainers will begin the hour with fun warm-up activities and games. Then they will focus on teaching a specific skill such as weight lifting, cardiovascular exercises, sports skills for track and field, basketball, soccer, table tennis, lacrosse and much more based on activities the group is interested in. We will finish the workout with stretching and a cool-down.

Goju Ryu Karate

Goju Ryu Karate
Goju Ryu (Japanese for "hard-soft style") Karate incorporates tactics executed at close range. Mind, body and spirit are fundamental to the highly effective self-defense system of Goju Ryu, which is taught by Desmond Tuck, a Japan-graded 7th Degree black belt.

Would you like to learn to play the flute? If you have ever blown across a plastic water bottle, you can make flute music!

Students will begin by learning to produce a sound on the flute head joint. Throughout the class, they will be taught to assemble, hold, and care for their entire instrument

This fun and hip choreographed ensemble will draw from the vast repertoire of renowned Jewish Broadway composers as well as some of the great contemporary Jewish pop artists and songwriters such as Billy Joel, Idina Menzel, Pink, Adam Levine (Maroon 5) and more.

Youth Volleyball Development League

Youth Volleyball Development League
Teach1Sports will host a weekly Volleyball Skills Clinic/League at the Oshman Family JCC every Thursday for boys and girls in grades 6-11. Sessions focus on individual athletic needs and team concepts that include passing, blocking, digging, situational setting, directional hitting, and different types of serving. We use age appropriate game balls and net size.

Dodgeball League

Dodgeball League
Come join us on our newly formed Dodgeball League!

Each teams will consist of eight to twelve people and will play on a volleyball size court. Each team must have a minimum of six players on the court at once.

Ping Pong Tournaments

Ping Pong Tournaments
Come and join us in a round robin tournament and see if you have what it takes to be the best of the OFJCC.

The first twenty participants to sign up will automatically be entered into the tournament. Each match will consist of three eleven point games. The top eight players will make the playoffs. Prizes will be awarded to the top players of the tournament.

Best 3 at the OFJCC
Take part in the OFJCC’s three-point competition in the Seiler Family Gymnasium. Make the most three-pointers and be crowned the "Best Shooter at the OFJCC"!

The winner takes home a OFJCC $50 gift card and the bragging rights of the "Best 3 at the OFJCC."

In addition to learning the fundamentals of music and guitar playing, students will learn how to play two voices together and chords will be introduced. This level II group class will continue advancing fundamentals of music and additional repertoire will be learned. Students will have an opportunity to explore various musical styles and genres.
