Teens Are Living It Up at the OFJCC!

 

The OFJCC teen program strives to be a hub of teen life, delivering fun and engaging programming led by and for teens.

Our program is infused with Jewish values and seeks to connect teens of all cultures to each other, the local community, and the world.

Teens in grades 6−12 will find a wealth of programs and activities at the OFJCC:

  • Fun social events
  • JCC Maccabi Games® and Artsfest®
  • Teen Taskforce (Teen Steering Committee)
  • Cultural arts classes and events for teens
  • Teen-oriented fitness center training and sports
  • Volunteer Opportunities at the OFJCC and throughout the community
  • Shalhevet (Bay Area teen journey to Poland and Israel)
  • J Camp Counselor-in-Training (CIT) Program
  • J Camp programs and trips just for teens
  • Marcia & John Goldman Teen Center with couches, tables and arcade games for events, parties and programs
  • Partnership with BBYO, the leading pluralistic teen movement, aspiring to involve more Jewish teens in more meaningful Jewish experiences.

For many teen events, the Oshman Family JCC partners with BBYO, enhancing programming with leadership training, community service opportunities, Jewish education and a connection to Israel.

Youth Volleyball Development League

Youth Volleyball Development League
Teach1Sports hosts a weekly Volleyball Skills Clinic/League at the Oshman Family JCC every Sunday for boys and girls in grades 6-11. Sessions focus on individual athletic needs and team concepts that include passing, blocking, digging, situational setting, directional hitting, and different types of serving. We use age-appropriate game balls and net size.

Basketball Shooting Machine Training

Basketball Shooting Machine Training

Are you looking to improve your basketball shot? 

The OFJCC now offers a shooting machine that will catch your rebounds and pass the ball so you spend more time practicing your shot and less time running after loose balls.

This is one of the most effective and efficient tools used to help build muscle memory as the repetition helps you to see what you are doing wrong.

In this program Personal Trainers will instruct teens on proper weight lifting form and technique, gym etiquette, SMART goal setting and how to reach these goals safely and effectively. They will encourage healthy behaviors in teens that lead to lifelong habits and wellness.

Private Flute Lessons

Jewish and popular music will be taught based on individual levels and interests. For more advanced students, flute works by classical masters such as Bach and Mozart will be studied along with classical compositions. All levels welcome!

Rock Band Class and Song Writing Class | Grades 4-6

Learning music is fun but playing in a rock and roll band is cool! This class will give students the opportunity to create music with their peers and form a real band. In a rock band, everyone has to work together, so each student will have input into the material and style of performance.

YouthFit
A fun sports, recreation and fitness program for kids 10-13 years old.

Personal trainers will engage children in exciting activities that will increase their speed, agility, strength, confidence and healthy habits.

Teen Rock Band and Song Writing Class

This course offers an exciting opportunity for both beginning songwriters and experienced musicians to hone their craft. Students will work with a seasoned songwriter and performer, delving into the elements that create a great song, including composition and form, lyrics and use of metaphor, as well as melody and harmony.

Participants will improvise and create characters and scenes in order to produce a performance piece. This piece will involve traditional play forms, physical theatre, improvisational games, writing, music and movement.

Goju Ryu Karate

Goju Ryu Karate
Goju Ryu (Japanese for "hard-soft style") Karate incorporates tactics executed at close range. Mind, body and spirit are fundamental to the highly effective self-defense system of Goju Ryu, which is taught by Desmond Tuck, a Japan-graded 7th Degree black belt.

Pickup Volleyball
Volleyball players of all ages are welcome to play every Thursday night.

Four-six player teams participate in a fun, friendly environment. Games will be played to 25 point and teams must win by two.

Table Tennis Tournament

Table Tennis Tournament
Come and join us in a round robin tournament and see if you have what it takes to be the best of the OFJCC.

The first twenty participants to sign up will automatically be entered into the tournament. Each match will consist of three eleven point games. The top eight players will make the playoffs. Prizes will be awarded to the top players of the tournament.

Take part in the OFJCC’s three-point competition in the Seiler Family Gymnasium. Make the most three-pointers and be crowned the "Best Shooter at the OFJCC"!

The Maccabeats: Purim Concert
