The first session on October 9 will be held only on Zoom.
"In traditional Jewish society, the purpose of study (lernen) was not information, nor even knowledge, but a lifelong exposure to the sacred texts and an ongoing dialogue with them. Lernen was seen both as an intellectual endeavor and as an act of devotion; its process was its purpose."
~ Haym Soloveitchik
The Palo Alto Talmud Circle, in association with New Lehrhaus (newlehrhaus.org), is a growing, dynamic and welcoming community of adult students, engaged in modern Talmud study and active conversation. The meetings are in person with the option to join virtually.
While the majority of participants are continuing students, anyone may join!
Rabbi Peretz Wolf-Prusan focuses on community education for the Bay Area through conferences, retreats, tours and text circles. From 1990 to 2010, he served Congregation Emanu-El of San Francisco as Rabbi and Educator. In 2002 he was awarded the Covenant Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the transmission of Jewish knowledge, values and identity. Rabbi Wolf-Prusan received his MAHL and Rabbinic degrees at the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion. Becki (a second generation native of the East Bay) and Peretz have happily returned to live in Berkeley. Rabbi Peretz recently retired after his 10-year tenure with HaMaqom. We are elated that he stayed with us to continue educating Talmud groups.
