"Ramses the Great and the Gold of the Pharaohs" | The de Young Museum

    Travel & Day Trips

    When: Thursday, 10/13/2022 9:30 AM - 4:00 PM

    Where: Off Campus

    OFJCC Palo Alto

Visit the extraordinary new exhibit at the de Young Museum in San Francisco. This state-of-the-art exhibition features the greatest collection of Ramses II objects and Egyptian jewelry ever to travel to the United States. The de Young is one of only three U.S. venues to show this exhibit.

Ramses II, known as Ramses the Great, was the most celebrated and powerful pharaoh of the New Kingdom—Egypt's golden age. Believed to be a god on Earth, he ruled for 67 years as part of the 19th Dynasty, erecting enormous temples, obelisks and statues and expanding Egypt's empire. Along with the pharaoh's colossal royal sculpture, the exhibition highlights recently-discovered animal mummies and treasures from the royal tombs of Dahshur and Tanis.

Also at the de Young, you will be able to see the Faith Ringgold: American People exhibit. Direct from its New York premiere, it is a retrospective of one of the most influential figures in American art.

    COVID Safety Protocols:
Proof of COVID vaccination with ID is required. Masks are to be worn at all times. The safety protocols are subject to change and will be updated as needed.

This excursion is offered at a greatly reduced price due to the generous support from the Jewish Community Federation and Endowment Fund. Senior Programs are made possible in part by generous contributions from the John R. Schwabacher Family, Diane and Jon Claerbout in memory of their beloved son Jos. We are grateful for the generous support of all of our donors.
