    Mitzvah Day 2025 Projects


     

    Join us on Sunday, January 19 and Monday, January 20 for two days of service. Bring your friends and family to work together on various fun and meaningful projects to bring to life Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.'s inspirational legacy of community service, justice and equality for all.

    Mitzvah day will be held in person at the Oshman Family JCC, Gideon Hausner Day School, Los Altos United Methodist Church and other satellite locations.


     

    Sunday, January 19 Projects

    Participants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by a guardian

    Warm feet are happy feet! We are proud to be hosting a sock drive for WeHope with donation bins at the OFJCC gym and by the Leslie Family Preschool front gate. Socks for all ages are welcome.

    Help us kick off our month-long drive in partnership with Loved Twice for gently used baby clothes for families impacted by the LA fires. Barrels will be placed at the Preschool Front gate and in the front of the gym. Don't have any baby clothes but still want to help? When you come to volunteer on Mitzvah Day, please bring your gift card donations and drop them off at the collection box located in the Fitness Center.

    Half Moon Bay Habitat Restoration
    Join us in Half Moon Bay in partnership with California Parks where we will work on dune and bluff restoration along this beautiful state coast. Protect and preserve the natural environment by planting native plants and removing non-native vegetation. *Weather Permitting*

    Come serve lunch at Project WeHope! Providing lunch is a crucial need. Come show your love and support of one of our most vulnerable communities by providing sustenance and companionship.

    Come help Hidden Villa get ready for spring! Garden and digging enthusiasts are encouraged to volunteer. *Weather Permitting*

    Join Izzi Early Education in sprucing up their Daly City site by adding a trike path, repainting pavement and a small playhouse, as well as creating a fairy garden and music wall if we have enough hands and time.

    A decision can save a life! Help us kick off our MLK National Day of Service: Mitzvah Day 2025 by donating blood. Stanford Blood Center will be at the OFJCC. Donors must be at least 17 years of age. Please schedule your appointment today by clicking here.

    Join Midpen and Grassroots Ecology staff for a fun workday planting native plants at Ravenswood Open Space Preserve. Staff will provide training on plant identification, planting techniques and information about why these plants are vital to our local landscape.     Join Hope's Corner in creating snack bags and positive messages for the people that they serve.

    Join El Camino Health to show your appreciation for our healthcare workers and honor all the hard work they have put into keeping us all healthy and safe during these unprecedented times.

    Pack a healthy snack bag and write a heartfelt thank you card. Want to pack and write more than one? The sky is the limit; we hope you will make as many packs as your heart’s desire! We have lots of thanks to go around!

    Help us assemble art kits in partnership with Next Door Solutions to Domestic Violence for children in shelters.

    Bagging Supplies for the Community Cupboard
    Help stock and organize supplies for Town Cat's Community Cupboard that supports cats in need! Bring food litter and treats, small fleece blankets or cat beds. Decorate grocery bags and make cards for cat families.

    Hamsas for Care
    Join us along with JFCS Youth First in creating hamsas for Ukraine. This fun and easy project will help give a thoughtful touch to those in need of love and connection.

    Adopt a Family that Lives in an RV
    In partnership with KSP, adopt a family living in recreational vehicles (RVs) in our communities and help them meet their current unique need.

    Bring a box and your creativity. You and your family will decorate and fill this box with the families' needed items that KSP will hand deliver.

    Plants for Holocaust Survivors
    Join us at Hausner to create beautiful Tu B'shvat care packages for Holocaust survivors participating in the JFCS's Cafe by the Bay program. We will pot plants and create greeting cards for the survivors. We will also learn about and discuss the significance of Tu B'shvat.

    Join us at Hausner, where we have the wonderful opportunity to bring smiles to Israeli families! Together, we'll create beautiful items for those dislocated from their homes during the war and explore the meaningful concept of tzedakah.

    Oral Hygiene Kits for PATH
    Partner up with Twin Smiles Orthodontics in assembling oral hygiene kits for PATH! Not only can a healthy smile boost self-esteem, it is also vital to our overall health as well. As we assemble oral hygiene kits, we will also create cards with happy, hopeful messages for PATHS' community member. The need is great; please help us by bringing full-sized oral hygiene items. Twin Smiles and the OFJCC will have a supplemental supply and will provide bags and cards.

    Meal Prep and Meal Service for St. Anthony's Padua Dining Room
    Join St. Anthony's Padua Dining Room in prepping and serving lunch! As an organization that serves over 300 meals per day as well as distributing groceries to its community six days a week and 52 weeks a year, there is always something to do. They would love your help getting it done!

    Looking for meaningful ways throughout the year to volunteer your time and support youth in our community? Please join EPAAF at this volunteer information session to learn about opportunities they offer throughout the year.

    Join us in support of Bay Area nonprofit Blossom Birth and Family as we make care packages for Blossom's community of new moms. We'll make lavender sachets and package them with love, along with other thoughtful gifts that show these new parents that we care!

    We will make tie fleece blankets for individuals in shelters. This hands-on project will make sure someone's stay is a little warmer and a little brighter this winter season.

    We will decorate pillowcases for individuals in shelters. This hands-on project will make sure someone's stay is a little brighter this winter season.

    We will come together to prep lunch and serve it to the LifeMoves community at their new Navigation Center.

    Natural Bridges Beach and Tide Pools Clean-up in Santa Cruz
    Come clean the beach and tide pools from all kinds of debris brought by waves or left behind by beach goers. If time permits and energy is good, we may clean the trails next to the beach as well.
