WHAT'S ON CAMPUS

About the Campus

The campus of the Oshman Family Jewish Community Center is truly inter-generational. We are home to a world-class fitness center, a cultural arts hall, a preschool, afterschool care and a community park.

The Taube Koret Campus for Jewish Life is also home to the Moldaw Senior Residences and a number of other Jewish organizations, including Meira Academy, Bay Area Friendship Circle, the Jewish Study Network and more.

The Taube Koret Campus

The Taube Koret Campus for Jewish Life is a welcoming, innovative, multi-generational destination where individuals and families live, learn, play and connect. The 8.5 acre site is anchored by the Oshman Family Jewish Community Center and Moldaw Family Residences. Since opening in September 2009, the campus has created an exciting hub for the region’s growing Jewish community and contributed to the revitalization of the South Palo Alto area.

Jessica Lynn Saal Town Square

A welcoming meeting place with easy access to all areas of campus, our gorgeous Jessica Lynn Saal Town Square is the hub of the Taube Koret Campus and a terrific place to gather with friends.

With easy access to the Goldman Sports & Wellness Complex and just steps away from the OFJCC Preschool, this is a perfect spot to take a seat under a tree, relax, take advantage of free wireless access, chat with friends or watch a performance on the outdoor amphitheater stage.

Oasis Playground

In the middle of the Jessica Lynn Saal Town Square is our fabulous Oasis Playground, an imaginative and delightful space for young children and their families. With climbing features, rolling “hills” and a sculpture garden to delight kids and adults alike, it is the perfect place to play, rest and chat.

Beta Café

The Beta Café resides in our Jessica Lynn Saal Town Square, serving as a gathering place for the Oshman Family JCC Jewish community, with fresh coffee, “grab-and-go items” and a full menu of Israeli-inspired cuisine Monday–Friday.

Beta Café is operated by:

  • Nily Shamgar Pessach, a former café franchise operator and retail entrepreneur, as well as the CEO and founder of Ankor, the resident Israeli boutique and Judaica store on the OFJCC campus
  • Alon Matas, a tech entrepreneur and investor who has built five companies and has been deeply involved in the OFJCC community for the last 15 years

Hours: Monday through Friday | 8:00 AM–7:00 PM

Environmental Sustainability

In the midst of the bustling South Peninsula, the Taube Koret Campus for Jewish Life provides a welcoming, beautifully-landscaped oasis. The campus feels like a small town, but it’s an extremely eco-conscious one with a strong environmental agenda.

The OFJCC may be steeped in tradition and historic metaphors but our facilities are also devoted to the future by respecting the environment and promoting ecological values.

Our intent is to ensure that the campus is not only green-focused, but that it provides an environmental leadership model for all residents and visitors. The campus incorporates an enormous solar panel array as well as many LEED-compliant design features in key areas like water efficiency, sustainability, energy efficiency, innovation and design.

Throughout the Taube Koret Campus you’ll find:

  • Palo Alto’s second largest solar roof system, totaling over 1,800 panels.
  • Integrated occupancy sensors for lighting, heating and air conditioning to save energy
  • Maximized use of natural lighting
  • Water efficient, both indoors and out
  • Interior paints and finishes with low emissions
  • Sufficient bicycle storage for all building users
  • Underground parking minimizes the “heat island effect”
  • Convenient location near public transportation

While green technology has been built into the campus, at the Oshman Family JCC we incorporate eco-conscious practices to keep our facilities and our community healthy. Just a few examples include convenient recycling throughout the campus, ongoing food waste composting at OFJCC Preschool, the use of green-approved cleaning supplies by our maintenance staff and the use of recycled and re-purposed materials wherever possible.

Deep connections to Jewish tradition and forward-thinking eco-leadership—you’ll find it all at the Oshman Family JCC.

The Arrillaga Family Pavilion and Freidenrich Community Park at the OFJCC

When our beautiful Taube Koret Campus for Jewish Life opened in fall 2009, it wasn’t actually finished. Our master campus plan included a Town Square and an open, versatile green space and multipurpose activity building. However, due to lack of funds, these facilities were not completed at the time. Instead, a chain link fence was installed at the southeast corner of the campus, demarcating the unbuilt area above the uncovered parking lot.

In 2018, with the help of generous gifts from our community, we finally completed the original plan and opened the Arrillaga Family Pavilion and Freidenrich Community Park, adding to Palo Alto a beautiful new environment for gathering, connecting and creating community.

Freidenrich Community Park is a multipurpose open field with a walking track, fire pit, garden space and surrounding outdoor fitness facilities. It hosts everything from camps and youth sports to community festivals and conferences.

The Arrillaga Family Pavilion, a flexible two-story building with reconfigurable multipurpose spaces and doors that open out onto the park, hosts classes, community celebrations, conferences and speakers, and private events.
