Y. Dan Rubinstein has a passion for improving the world. He is a serial entrepreneur and actively advises, mentors and invests in promising startups both as an independent angel investor and as an active member of J-Ventures and J-Impact.
He was CEO/co-founder of Physera (2015–2020; acquired by Omada Health), a digital healthcare company that leverages data and technology to deliver care through its nationwide network of licensed clinicians.
Previously he was head of Product at Palantir and an EIR at Khosla Ventures and Plug-n-Play Tech Center.
As Product Management Director at Facebook (2009–2014), he was responsible for the critical self-resolution product features that enabled FB to grow to 1B users with minimal human ops support, and all systems that protected the site from fraud, spam, account/login issues and other vectors that impacted site quality during his tenure. He led product and engineering for Newsfeed (including ads distribution, platform distribution and user content ranking) which drove material increases to user engagement and revenue.
As Product Management Director of Monetization at Google (2005–2009), he led the AdWords Decision Support group, drove the company’s revenue forecasting process and worked in multiple cross-functional management and leadership roles on products ranging from Google Checkout to Small Business Initiatives.
In the seven years prior to joining Google, he was the founding CEO and later VP Marketing and Business Development of Reflectivity, a MEMS semiconductor microdisplay company which was acquired by Texas Instruments. In those roles, he raised over $58M of venture capital financing, established key manufacturing partner relationships with leading suppliers in Taiwan and Japan, and was responsible for all marketing and joint development activities with projector OEMs including Sony and InFocus. Reflectivity had over 120 issued patents.
He has consulted for numerous Silicon Valley corporate clients, including a product management role at Infinity Financial Technology. He has held engineering positions at Xerox PARC, Bell-Northern Research and Siemens focused on automated pattern recognition systems in speech and image processing.
He is a co-inventor on multiple patents, has a PhD in statistics and MS in EE from Stanford University and a BS in EE (highest honors) from Princeton University and is a published singer-songwriter. He is married to Tzipor Ulman (founder and CEO of Science is Elementary, whose mission is to effect systemic change in elementary school science education by teaching students, training teachers and engaging the scientific community) and has two boys.
Dan has been an active member of the JCC since it first opened—he is an active user of the fitness center and pool, cultural events and classes. He has hosted events by J-Ventures and ICON and is a sponsor of Z3 and other fundraising events. Dan and Tzipor are active in the Jewish community, members of Kol Emeth and Hausner parents and supporters.
