Mads Tolling, violin
Mads releases Masters of Jazz Violin, a heartfelt tribute to the jazz violinists who shaped his musical journey. This album features compositions written and associated with jazz violin greats Stéphane Grappelli, Jean-Luc Ponty, Svend Asmussen, Stuff Smith and many others. As a young man, Mads contacted 'The Fiddling Viking' Svend Asmussen for lessons, and he ended up receiving much of Svend's sheet music, including many handwritten arrangements. Mads was later recommended by Jean-Luc Ponty to join Stanley Clarke's band, and the two have stayed in contact ever since. Joining Mads on his journey are fellow Bay Area world-class musicians Dan Feiszli on bass and guitarist Bruce Forman, who performed with jazz violin legends Venuti and Grappelli.

Mads Tolling is the recipient of the 2016 DownBeat Critics Poll Rising Star Award for violin. A former long-time member of Stanley Clarke's band and the Turtle Island Quartet, Mads also toured for five years with Bob Weir & Wolf Bros. He has performed his violin concertos with the late, great Michael Morgan and the Oakland Symphony, and he leads his own ensemble, Mads Tolling & The Mads Men. His work has been featured on NPR's Morning Edition and in The Washington Post, and he has performed with musical legends such as Kenny Barron, Ramsey Lewis, Paquito D'Rivera and Leo Kottke.

"Mads has the amazing talent and skills that few young musicians can match. His music is both beautiful and refreshing exhibiting his superb mastery of the modern American jazz music that is rarely seen among his peers." ~Jean-Luc Ponty

"With Tolling's honed technique, vigorous attack and engaging brand of swing..." ~Mike Joyce, The Washington Post

Bruce Forman, guitar
A hectic touring schedule; twenty-one recordings as a leader; countless sideman recordings including Ray Brown, Bobby Hutcherson, Roger Kellaway; soundtrack performances on three of Clint Eastwood's distinguished films—most notably Academy Award-winning Million Dollar Baby; raconteur, arranger, acclaimed educator; in residence at USC's Studio/Jazz Guitar Department—when does Bruce Forman rest?

Deep immersion in American culture inspires Forman to contribute to the traditions that he draws from. Reunion! (the newest project) revisits the famed Poll Winners sessions with cohorts John Clayton and Jeff Hamilton, playing instruments owned by Barney Kessel, Ray Brown and Shelly Manne; Formanism (his trio project); original works like The Red Guitar; his high-rated podcast, GuitarWank; Cow Bop and the 'road challenges' down historic byways like Route 66; JazzMasters Workshop; Junkyard Duo; GrumpsTV (a fifty-episode YouTube variety show during the lockdown), the popular 'first chorus of the day' series on Instagram…these are only the latest answers to the endless question that underlies Bruce Forman's creativity. His music and life reflect every step of his journey and demonstrate the awareness of an artist who is very much at home in the world, and at the top of his form.

Dan Feiszli, bass
Dan Feiszli is a bassist and recording engineer/producer living in the San Francisco Bay Area. Experienced on both upright and electric basses, Dan is a versatile performer in styles of music ranging from jazz and Latin to pop and rock. He has performed in concert with such notable artists as James Moody, Raul Midon and Mickey Hart; toured nationally and internationally with artists including Julio Iglesias, Nicole Yarling and Raul DiBlasio; and played in the pit orchestras for musical theatre productions including Hamilton, The Lion King and Billy Elliot. In addition to his career as a performer, Dan is featured on hundreds of recordings as both a bassist and recording engineer and has recorded and mixed albums reaching the highest positions on the US Top 40 Jazz Radio Charts. In between performances and recording sessions, Dan can be found working as a freelance recording engineer and producer at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley and at his own studio in El Cerrito, California.
